Being known for its single-vineyard and single-appellation Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as a monumental sculpture collection at its Estate, Sonoma wine producer The Donum Estate has entered the Asian market for the first time.
Local distribution partner Vinopolis Hong Kong will represent the winery in the territory.
Donum’s terroir-driven wines are rooted in some celebrated regions in Northern California, including its estate-owned vineyards in Carneros, Anderson Valley, and the Russian River Valley.
Led by winemaker Dan Fishman, The Donum Estate comprises 200 acres north of San Pablo Bay in the Carneros wine region, using biodynamic and organic farming practices.
Historically, the winery largely sold its wines directly to consumers through a membership .
“We are excited to offer a selection of Donum wines to Hong Kong, especially as people may not be able to travel to visit us at the estate during this time. With our terroir-driven ideology, our wines can transport people to our vineyards with each sip,” said Fishman.
“As proud residents of Hong Kong, we are delighted to have found a partner to introduce our wines to the City,” said Mei and Allan Warburg, owners of Donum and famous art collectors in Asia. They added, “the Donum art collection has gathered world-wide attention in the art community and through this recognition we have met many lovers of art who also have a passion for fine wines.”
Donum has been gaining visibility in Hong Kong of late through the Donum Collection and having hosted receptions to celebrate its artists alongside the annual “Art Week” in March.
The estate features over 40 major art works from artists across the globe, including Ai Weiwei, Yayoi Kusama, Louise Bourgeois, Keith Haring, Zhan Wang, Elmgreen & Dragset, Yue Minjun, Jaume Plensa, Subodh Gupta, Danh Vo, Doug Aitken and Tracey Emin, among others.
“We are immensely thrilled to introduce Donum to Hong Kong. The wine community here is thriving, and they are seeking unique, premier quality wines such as Donum. The demand is very high and our customers are really enthusiastic. But we only have limited stock available in this initial introduction,” said K. L. Lee, executive director of Vinopolis HK.
Donum will also be added to the wine list of the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant and art space Duddell’s. “Our clients have a deep and active appreciation for the arts. People come together over food and wine, in an environment that connects art and people. With Donum’s monumental art collection and artist-designed labels, it’s a great addition to our wine list,” said Duddell’s co-founder Alan Lo.
