As the country's first comprehensive pilot zone for development of characteristic industries, the Pilot Zone will help Ningxia wine better integrate into the world, strive to create a pioneering zone for cooperation and docking in the "Belt and Road", and realize the "Purple Dream".
 
The total area of ​​wine grapes planted in Ningxia has reached 550,000 mu, accounting for more than a quarter of the country. There are 211 wineries, of which 101 wineries have been built and 110 are under construction, with an annual output of 130 million bottles of wine. In the future, Ningxia plans to take five years to build a modern grape and wine industry area with a comprehensive output value of 100 billion yuan, a total wine grape base of 1 million mu, and an annual output of more than 300 million bottles of high-quality wine, and become China's "wine capital".
 
"Ningxia is one of the first regions in China to grow grapes and make wine. There are basic considerations for development." Speaking of the building of the "Comprehensive Pilot Zone" in Ningxia, Mr Sui Pengfei, director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said there are multiple factors to be considered.
 
“First of all, the unique terroir and natural endowments of the eastern foot of Helan Mountain are extremely suitable for the growth of wine grapes; secondly, 27 grapes varieties have been planted in the region, and the area of ​​wine grape planting and winery production ranks first in the whole country.”Said Sui.
