Chinese stocks closed mixed Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.40 percent, at 3,628.49 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.57 percent lower at 14,277.08 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.15 trillion yuan (about 178 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.34 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to electricity and coal led the gains, while those related to Baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) led the losses.
