First direct China-Scotland service transports one million bottles of whisky
The first-ever direct container service connecting China and Scotland berthed at Greenock Ocean Terminal last week after its maiden voyage.
The new east and west bound freight route from Ningbo, China, arrived for the first time at Scotland’s deepest container terminal on Saturday morning at 9.35am.
The service transported imports including textiles, furniture, and toys for the Scottish market.
The vessel’s containers were loaded with tens of thousands of cases of whisky in a boost for the export market, and departed the Scottish terminal on the evening of 27 August on its route back to China.
The new east and west bound freight route from Chinese ports to Greenock Ocean Terminal is a brand new partnership between KC Liner Agencies, DKT Allseas and China Xpress and is in response to global pressures on the supply chain.
It is hoped that the move will provide Scottish importers and exporters looking to move goods, including whiskies, with a direct port and put an end to issues with shipments and delays encountered by going via other European ports.
