the Chinese customs has released the import data of wine from January to December 2023. The wine import volume in 2023 was about 243 million liters, and the import value was about 1.082 billion US dollars (about 7.786 billion yuan). Both import volume and import value fell by 25.67% and 19.41% year on year respectively. It is worth noting that since October, the import data has shown a stable rebound trend on a month-on-month basis.
The data showed that the import volume of bottled wine from January to December 2023 was about 155 million liters, and the import value was about 1.01 billion US dollars (about 7.268 billion yuan), with a year-on-year decrease of 29.54% and 17.81% respectively in volume and value.
In 2023, the monthly import volume and value of wine from January to December were lower than those of 2022, with January having the largest difference of 10.4712 million liters. This is mainly due to the fact that January data reflects wine orders from December 2022 or even earlier, which is during the peak period of the epidemic outbreak and a large number of wine promoting activities have stopped, resulting in a significant decline in the number of orders placed by importers.
